The Predeparture Guide

A suitcase full of application requirements Congratulations on being selected to study abroad! Now that you’ve got through the interviews and accepted your place, all the hard work is done right?

Not quite!

In the next few weeks you’ll need to complete a formal application to your Partner University, choose the modules you want to study overseas, organise your finances and make some preliminary preparations for your return – before you even leave! So, there’s a lot to organise in a fairly short space of time. That’s why we’ve set up this tutorial: it’ll guide you through the administrative journey you need to make before you embark on your adventure overseas.

How to Use Tick Off to Take Off

Tick Off to Take Off covers all the steps of the application process. Make sure you complete the relevant step of the tutorial BEFORE you tackle the real thing! It will save you lots of time and provide answers to any queries you may have.
  1. Tick Off to Take Off is organised into two parts. Part 1 deals with the academic requirements of your application and Part 2 covers practical issues like booking your flight and arranging your insurance. Both sections consist of a series of self-contained modules, which you can move through at your own pace.
  2. The information has been presented in a logical, chronological fashion. While it is possible to access different steps of the tutorial out of sequence, you are advised to follow the suggested order.
  3. After each Part you will find a Checklist that you can print off to ensure you have complied with all the requirements.
  4. Under Resources you can print out the forms that your home university requires you to complete as part of your application. You’ll also find lots of useful websites here.
  5. Under My Application you can access an information page about your Partner University, which contains instructions about how you apply and all of the documents that you need to submit a complete application.
  6. Tick Off to Take Off has been created for the UK academic context. Wherever possible, information from UK sources has been used. If you are not a British citizen, Tick Off to Take Off will still be extremely helpful in your study abroad preparation. However, information on visas and so on is inevitably nation-specific and links to alternative sources are provided where available.
